Stem Cell and PRP Knee Injections
Knees are tricky things and for the active individual often a prime area of complaint when it comes to injury. It’s all too common for an active individual to injure the meniscus, cartilage, ACL or MCL ligaments, or have chronic knee pain due to a past injury or arthritis.
Here at the Albano Clinic we look first to a complete regimen of improving wellness and fitness, reducing weight, providing physical therapy and customized and targeted application of Biologics—Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) and Stem Cell Treatments—to aid in recovery for people suffering from knee injuries. Just reducing the load on a knee through modest weight loss, for example, can result in dramatic improvements. Surgeries like arthroscopic procedures or whole knee joint replacement are often seen as the only option but come with a set of risks and a guaranteed rehab time of months to return to even a basic fitness level. We look first to less invasive methods to get you back to doing what you love.
Knee Injections can help with the following conditions:
- Meniscus Tears
- ACL, MCL, PCL or LCL sprain or tear
- Knee instability
- Patellofemoral Syndrome/Chondomalacia
- Pes anserine bursitis
- Baker’s cyst (a cyst behind the knee)
- Patellar tendonitis
- Tendonis and tendonitis
- Hamstrings Tendinopathy

Bad results from surgery
Knee injuries had sidelined Matt Sansom. After undergoing a surgery to one knee with poor results, Sansom sought out the Albano Clinic and says he has seen excellent results from PRP, autologous fat and stem cell injections.
For years, the medical establishment has put an emphasis on reducing inflammation and employed liberal use of anti-inflammatory drugs, typically NSAID drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen and or steroids. We now know that inhibiting or slowing your body’s natural inflammatory response slows healing by preventing naturally occurring repair cells from reaching your injury. Our targeted Biologic treatments are designed to provoke an inflammatory response while increasing the number of healing cells in the injured area.
Platelet Rich Plasma Treatments
Used in maxillofacial and plastic surgery since the early 1980s, the technique has been developed recently to aid in the treatment of professional athletes, recovering from injuries. We draw your own blood and concentrate the platelets to 4 to 5 times beyond normal and, using ultrasound to guide us, inject them precisely into injured areas. The treatment also activates stem cells in the injured area calling them into action. The procedure can be used in combination with stem cell treatments or alone.
Stem Cell Treatments
Adult stem cells are cells from your own body that are essentially “un-programmed” meaning that they can turn into other cell types (differentiate). They are naturally occurring cells that are can renew themselves and turn into other cells (differentiate). They are inside your body and are an essential component of the healing process. We know areas of the body where more stem cells occur, bone marrow for example. We are able to harvest these cells from your own tissues in high concentration and direct them with exact precision to the injured area.
