Introduction
Orthobiologic procedures—including PRP, bone marrow concentrate, and related regenerative treatments—work by enhancing your body's natural healing processes. Because these therapies depend on your biology, what you do before and after treatment has a direct impact on your outcome.
Before Your Procedure
- Stop NSAIDs at least one week before your procedure. Medications such as ibuprofen, naproxen, Motrin, and Aleve suppress the inflammatory response needed for healing.
- Stay well hydrated the day before your procedure to support blood quality and overall healing.
- Prioritize adequate protein intake to provide your body with the building blocks needed for tissue repair.
- Inform your care team about every medication and supplement you take, including blood thinners and medications that affect immune function.
- Arrange for someone to drive you home after your procedure.
- Fill any prescribed medications before your appointment so they are available when you need them.
Important Note
Avoiding NSAIDs before your procedure is one of the most important steps you can take to maximize the effectiveness of regenerative treatment.
The Day of Your Procedure
Cell harvesting and treatment are typically performed during the same visit. Depending on your treatment plan, this may involve a blood draw for PRP, a small fat harvest, or a bone marrow aspiration from the posterior pelvis.
Procedures are performed using local anesthesia in a sterile treatment room. Patients remain awake, although light sedation may be requested when appropriate.
Clinical Insight
Every injection is performed under real-time ultrasound guidance to ensure the biologic material is delivered precisely to the injured tissue.
