Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a treatment that uses a concentration of your own platelets and growth factors to support the body's natural healing process.
Platelets are cells found in your blood that help coordinate tissue repair after an injury. They contain growth factors and other signaling proteins that play an important role in healing.
During a PRP procedure, a small sample of your blood is collected and processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich portion. The PRP is then precisely delivered to the targeted area, often using ultrasound guidance for accuracy.
Because PRP is created from your own blood, it is commonly used in orthopedics and sports medicine to support recovery in joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and other soft tissues.
Here's how the typical patient experience unfolds — from first consultation through recovery and follow-up.
Dr. Albano reviews your history, imaging, and goals to determine if PRP is appropriate and how to best target the treatment.
The procedure typically takes 45–60 minutes. Blood is drawn, processed, and injected under ultrasound guidance. Most patients feel mild pressure during injection.
Some soreness at the injection site is normal for a few days. Light activity is usually permitted quickly, with gradual return to full activity over 2–6 weeks.
Dr. Albano will follow up to assess your response. Some patients experience gradual improvement over 6–12 weeks as tissue heals and remodels.
Every patient has a different story, but the goal is often the same: getting back to the activities they love.
